Resins Production

The department resins of CARTIERA GIACOSA S.p.A. has two reactors dedicated to phenolic or urea-melamine production and relative storage.

Phenolic resins are manufactured in 5 recipes recorded as indicated in the Operating Department Procedures, and in full respect for the provisions of the "Safety Management System for the Prevention of major accidents" maintained in compliance with the Legislative Decree 334/99 and subsequent amendments which falls under the Establishment of the storage and processing needed to produce these types of polymers.

They are produced in a reactor of 28 m3 where are loaded the main raw materials such as phenol, formaldehyde at 36%, caustic soda (as catalyst); in the basic recipe, the delicate production process begins by heating under agitation of these raw materials loaded in known quantities (the reactor has an external coil crossed by steam).

When the liquid mass reaches 60 ° C it starts to cool to control the exothermic reaction. Upon reaching 100 ° C starts the distillation of the liquid and condensed in a condenser tube cooled with water and recycled in the reactor. After one hour at 100 ° C is cooled to 50 ° C, methanol is added and the mass continues to cool to 30 ° C. The resin is then downloaded to a dedicated storage tank.

The production of urea melamine resins, is made in a reactor of 20 m3 where they are loaded depending on production raw materials such as formaldehyde at 36%, water, diethylene glycol, urea, melamine, sucrose, sorbitol, caprolactam, butanediol. Also adds acid and caustic soda at 30% as pH adjusters. It is then heated with steam up to 85 ° C, is left in agitation for 3-4 hours, then cooling to 30 ° C. The reactor is equipped with a reflux condenser.

The resin produced is discharged into the dedicated storage tanks.
