Cartiera Giacosa is characterized by 3 business units:
Tradition and innovation go at the same pace in the paper production process. Passion, experience, attention and scrupulousness of craftsmanship are a must in every phase of the production process, where the most modern technologies are used.
Cartiera Giacosa uses two machines built respectively by OVER and MAULE. The Over PM 2 machine is characterized by a 3 meters flat table and it works at a speed of 250 meters per minute; it is used for the preparation of high-weight Kraft paper. The MAULE machine is characterized by a flat table measuring 2.5 meters and it works at a speed of 250 meters per minute; it is used for the production of low weight and colored Kraft paper.
Today, these two machines allow Cartiera Giacosa to produce a capacity of about 55.000/60.000 tons of paper per year.
The impregnation is the process in which the paper is loaded with thermosetting resin. This process consists in immersing both sides of the paper into liquid resin, which makes it more resistant for the pressing operations. In particular, Kraft papers are normally impregnated with phenolic resins (obtained by the reaction between phenol and formaldehyde).
The impregnation process in Cartiera Giacosa takes place continuously and it is done through two phenolic impregnation lines. They are made respectively by VITS and TOCCHIO. The VITS line is characterized by a 215cm format and it works at a speed of 120 meters per minute, while the TOCCHIO line has a maximum format of 215cm and works at a speed of 60 meters per minute.
Today, these two active lines allow Cartiera Giacosa an annual production capacity of approximately 16.000 tons.
Cartiera Giacosa boasts a resins department equipped with two reactors of a capacity of 20 and 28 cubic meters respectively. They are used for the production of phenolic and urea-melamine resins. They are also equipped with storage tanks for relative raw material.
The reactors supplied allow Cartiera Giacosa to produce about 20.000 tons of phenolic resins, and as many melamine resins, per year.
